Welcome to laurathomasphd.com, my new home on the web. I know some of you had noticed that I wasn’t posting on Peaches and Greens anymore over the past few months and had been wondering what I’ve been up to. Well, A LOT has changed since my last P&G post but in short, I peaced out of my dietetics course, quit my job, and started a business.
I know you guys are probably like, “LAURA, WHAT THE HELL??”. And I got a bit of that when I made the decision to leave my course. In fact, some people were totally uncool with the idea and made weird comments. But the majority of people were not only really supportive; they were actually incredibly excited for me. These were the people who had seen how miserable I was and were pretty relieved when I decided to pack it in.
It wasn’t an easy decision to make, and sometimes I still wonder if I’ve made the right choice, but when I think about how much I’ve achieved in such a short space of time (more on that later) I realise that getting the dietetics qualification was just an excuse to not get the eff on with things. I guess I was hiding behind the fact that I didn’t have the dietetics credential as another reason for why I couldn’t start my business and couldn’t do the thing I wanted to do more than anything else, which is to help people lead happier, healthier lives, and feel REALLY good. But the fact is, I already have all the tools, and education, and experiences to start making a difference and once I got over myself and started believing that, I soon realised that the only thing stopping me was me.
I don’t think there’s much point in going over the reasons that I left the course (but let’s just say I wasn’t the only one), I’d rather focus on all the really cool shit that’s about to come. First of all, can we just talk about how cool my new site is? This is where I’m going to post plant based recipes and inspiration for keeping it healthy. I’ll be back with my ‘That’s my Jam’ posts to share with my favourite brands and products with you, and I’m going to share some natural beauty ideas that I’ve been experimenting with. Offline, I have a bunch of cool talks and demonstrations to announce as part of Leeds Indie Food Festival with favourites like Leeds Juicery and Roots and Fruits. Oh, and I’m going to be on TV. YUP! Not giving too much away, just check out Yoga With Helena at 8pm tonight on the Made in Leeds Channel. I’ll post the recipe shortly.
I’m also doing some super exciting consulting work with local restaurants, helping them to get some more plants on their menus and working one on one with some really cool people.
Something that I’m really, really pumped about is my Feel Good Guide. I’ve hand picked some of my favourite plant friendly places in Leeds to help you get your health on while you’re out and about doing your thing! Find out more here (link)
Some people are pretty bummed that I’m not going to post to Peaches and Greens anymore and I get it, it was a cute little site and I’m going to leave it up for you to explore and use as a resource. But I’m not sad about letting it go, instead I’m excited for all the possibilities this new site has.
Just before I let you go off and explore, I just wanted to ask you a huge favour. Pleaseeeeeee, please, please share the new site with your family and friends and anyone who could do with some extra help getting their healthy on. Not for me, but for them. And stay in touch on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and of course, don’t be shy, say hello here too!
Alright, go explore. And let me know what you think!
