If you’ve suffered from an eating disorder and feel like this episode could be triggering for you then please just go and check out another episode!
Like my friend said to me after hearing this episode, Megan Crabbe is superfuckingcool. But not cool for the sake of being cool, but cool because she has the best message to share. She’s the body positive Queen behind Bodyposipanda, and she’s inspiring hundreds of thousands of people to feel good about their bodies, independent of their shape, size, skin colour, ability, or gender – something that the exclusive wellness community aren’t so great at.
So, we talk about how wellness has become synonymous with how you look instead of how you feel, the damaging effects of diet culture and ‘bikini bodies’ and how they all feed into body dysmorphia, eating disorders, and orthorexia.
But we also get into how to begin to change our attitudes and negative thoughts and become more body positive, and really start to learn how to love ourselves.
Megan challenged me to share a bopo picture of myself (below), so I figured if I have to do it, then so should you. Post your pics to instagram or twitter, write what you love about your body, tag Megan and me, and use #dontsaltmygame.
As a nutritionist I sometimes feel a lot of pressure to look a certain way, and because I have boobs and hips and thighs, and don’t look like the Deliciously Ella’s and Madeleine Shaw’s of this world, I shouldn’t show my body. Like the work I do is somehow invalid because I’m not a size 6. And when you think about it, it’s pretty crazy to think that the way I look has anything with HOW I DO MY JOB!
But the reality is, without this body, I wouldn’t be able to help people change the way they eat, I wouldn’t be able to record my podcast and write for Huffington Post, I couldn’t travel and see different places, or hang out with my friends, or snuggle with my boyfriend and our cat family. So I’m slowly learning to love the parts I don’t love about myself (looking at you upper arms).
Please remember to subscribe on iTunes and share this episode with someone who maybe needs to feel good about themselves today!
